Philippe Gilliéron’s activities focuses on IP/IT/Digital and Privacy related matters:

  • IP related work covers both contentious and non contentious work for a wide range of clients in a wide range of industries (FMCG, luxury, watches, banking, sports, Entertainment). Philippe Gilliéron has co-edited the first ever commentary in Switzerland covering all IP laws and is regularly involved in complex IP litigation. Typical work includes: trademark litigation, fight against online counterfeit (implementation and enforcement of strategies), domain name disputes (for which Philippe functions as WIPO Panelist since 2001), advice on the online exploitation of copyrighted content in the audiovisual industry (streaming, catch-up, advertising windows, etc.).
  • IT/Digital strong expertise with longstanding clients leads Philippe to regularly team up with procurement/business teams of his clients, thus gaining significant expertise in project management for complex IT matters; his expertise is sought by clients to negotiate IT matters valued from ranging from just a few thousand dollars to multi-million dollar deals. Typical work includes: drafting and negotiation of cloud based agreements, software licensing agreements, professional services agreements, development agreements (notably for software, websites, apps).
  • Privacy. Philippe got certified by the IAPP (International Association for Privacy Professionals) as “DPO Ready” (CIPP/E and CIPM certified). His expertise in this area, notably with regards to implementation and enforcement of privacy management program and GDPR compliance is increasingly sought for, including by a multi-billion multionational company for which Philippe functions as head European Privacy counsel. Typical work includes: privacy clearance at European level, compliance assessment, implementation of GDPR, implementation and enforcement of privacy program management.

Philippe’s expertise in these fields has been recognized by both the academic world (Law School Professor since 2006) and the industry. Philippe Gilliéron regularly lectures in these fields, both in Switzerland and abroad (Harvard, Cornell, Georges Washington, ITAM or SciencesPo). Philippe has written four books, edited three of them and published around forty papers in both national and international reviews.

His command of the legal intricacies in these areas of law mixed with a business and pragmatic-oriented approach has been well received by his clients. Philippe graduated at Stanford Law School (2006) and Lausanne Law School (Ph.D. 2001, J.D. 1997).

He is married and has two children. He was a member of the Swiss junior swimming team, has a black belt in martial arts and has run several marathons. He is also certified in bodysystemics, a three-year learning course which helped him develop specific skills in construing body language gestures.
